Project Looney Toons

Once all the work was completed I could not wait to get back to the track. Unfortunately due to all the snow I did not make it back to the track until April for the Superstallions of the Net Spring Nationals. I was instantly rewarded with my first 11-second timeslip. By the end of the day I ran a best of 11.5 @ 126 mph. With continued fine tuning I was able to run a best of 10.90 @ 126 mph by November of 2001.

Over the winter of 2001 I decided to try to step it up a little too much. I installed a Vortech YS-trim blower with a Renegade pulley setup. After a few pulls on the dyno the stock block decided it had enough and it cracked and spun a bearing so out it came.

As a result of splitting the block, I built another 306 to replace the broken one. I upgraded the cam to a TFS Stage II cam. I also sold my old heads and bought a pair of Edelbrock 60379's. I took the YS-Trim off, and put the S-trim back on.

With less then 100 miles on the motor, it was time for the 2002 SSOTN Spring Nats. The motor went 10.46 @ 130.97 mph on the second pass. I have run consistent mid 10's ever since. Recently with an upgraded fuel system the car made 524.6 rear wheel horse power on the dyno at La Rocca's .

Project Looney Tunes is destined to break into the single digit's. The goal is to run a 9.99. In the near future a 327 stroker motor is going to be built for the car. This motor will feature a Scat 4340 forged 3.25 stroke crank, Scat 4340 5.400 H-beam rods, custom Ross 4.00 bore -20cc dished forged pistons with a blower friendly 8.5:1 compression ratio, and all ARP hardware. This motor will built with a Ford Motorsport Sportsman block and will utilize a main girdle for additional support. I have to thank all of my friends from Superstallions of the Net. Without their support and advice my car would not be what it is today. I have learned everything I know from them. I would like to especially thank Jimmy Chahalis and Bob Lunner for providing me with the guidance and direction I needed when I was building and tweaking the car. These guys were there to bail me out every time I ran into trouble along the way and they helped me pick every aspect of the combo. I would especially like to thank my friends Mike Euston and Darin Croom. Mike is responsible for turning me from a checkbook racer into someone that does all of their own wrenching. He has been a true mentor. Darin has also helped me turn the wrenches when I needed a second set of hands or helped me when I needed some direction doing something new. Most importantly I have to thank my very understanding wife Barbara. She has been very supportive throughout the entire buildup. She never got upset when I spent lots of time in the garage working on the car, and she was very understanding of all the money I spent to get the car just right.
