1) Put tranny in NEUTRAL Remove shift knob.
2) Pull off trim cover(boot will come with it)
3) Remove 4 bolts holding the floor seal in place (rubber piece with brass type metal around it..) You may have to use a dremal tool to access the two top bolts on 87' to 93' Stangs. But don't worry the trim plate will cover up the butchery! Just don't cut too much!! Now as for 94 and up Stangs..No cutting is required.?
4) Now remove the 4 bolts holding the stock shifter in place, and put that THING as far away from you as possible!
5) Scrap any material off on the shifters mounting point and put new RTV sealant on it. DON'T GET ANY IN 4 HOLES!!! NOT GOOD!!
6) Place the new shifter on the mounting surface and use the bolts supplied with the PRO 5.0. Make sure its in neutral!! you'll know when its not.
7) Cut the rubber section on the floor seal as shown in the directions supplied with the shifter. Bolt the floor seal down.
8) Bolt on the shifter handle on the drivers side or passengers side, I'm 6' 4" and found it more comfortable on the passengers side.  Next adjust the shift stops to the directions specs.
9) Put the trim plate back on along with the shift knob and check it for correct engagement.
10) Buckle up hit the key and get ready for some fun!!!!
