How To ID 1991 - 1993 Mustang Fenders
By: Walter Pasicznyk

As the Fox body Mustang enters the restoration phase of its life there is the desire for more information. To help this along I provide these pictures. It is well known that the 1991 to 1993 Mustang fenders are a little different than the 1990 and before fenders so as to allow more room for larger wheels. The GT ground effects rubber pieces were the same from 1987 to 1990, and 1991 to 1993 - this is what I could confirm from the pieces I have. The steel of the fenders measured different. Because of this you will need access to the lower front steel area of the fender to confirm the vintage of the fender.
I submit three photographs. The first is one of a 1991 and 1990 fender. Can you see the difference? Its minor but noticeable when they're together. The next two pictures are of the 1991 (white) and 1990 (maroon) fenders with a tape measure over the area of the fender that was changed by Ford. As you can see the 1991-1993 fender measures approximately 7 f@ near the lower fascia mounting hole and the pre 1991 fender measures approximately 8 e@ at the same point. In the photograph of the two fenders you can see that the wheel arch begins to open up after the point where the top of the grounds effects plastic is attached to the fender.

As I understand, all the Mustang replacement fenders from Ford are of the 1991-1993 variety.
I hope you find this useful in your search for sheet metal.
